Tulip Chair
$500.00
Released January, 2011
The Cons:Design is wonderful, Knoll quality is terrible. All my chairs have rusted after only three years where the base connects with the seat.
The Tulip chair was designed by Finnish-American designer Eero Saarinen in 1956. The design was originally for the Knoll company who wanted a chair with smooth lines and a modern feel. At the time, the tulip chair was renowned for its 'space-age' curves and use of materials.
The base is fiberglass with an upholstered seat.
Eero Saarinen was known for creating pieces that reflected the requirements of the project, often times pleasing the requester of the project, while also making sure each piece maintained his signature style. Saarinen was considered a modernist and one of the major advocates of industrial design.
