The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

GT-D: #the_hitchhiker_s_guide_to_the_galaxy Yeah the movie, like all the other versions, is not the same. Adams seemed to be all for changing his work to fit the medium.

I liked the movie, I thought it embodied a fair bit of why the book/radio show were good but at the same time did its own thing in the way Adams would have wanted.

The Salmon of Doubt is worth reading if you really liked the series(es) - it provides interesting insight into what Adams was like and where he got his ideas.

If anyone remembers the part about sitting in the train station reading a newspaper and the other guy sits down and starts eating the protagonist's cookies, but he's too British to say anything so he starts eating the cookies too to assert that they are his, only to find out at the end that his cookies were under his paper and he was eating the other guys cookies and the other guy also didn't say anything.... that ACTUALLY HAPPENED to Douglas Adams. I laughed so hard the first time I read it in Hitch Hiker's and laughed all the harder reading the Salmon of Doubt when he relays the story in the first person as it actually happened to him. Omar: #the_hitchhiker_s_guide_to_the_galaxy I listened to the entire radio show on my commute to work for 2 weeks last year and it was the 2 best work weeks of my life. The other passengers on the train must've thought I was insane as I sat there with my headphones on laughing hysterically. I never realized how much of modern geek society is based off of this book, it's amazing. Read it, and you'll see that some of your favourite websites are actually homages to this book. Dec 4, 06
