Sony MDR-KX70LW
$50.00
Released May, 2006
The Pros:Retractable cord is very convenient, avoids tangles completely. Sound is crisp and clean with nice depth and plenty of detail. Bass doesn't drown out the mids or highs.
The Cons:Retracting device is a bit touchy, not always easy to get it to work as expected. Cables are extremely thin, easy to snap them off.
Marketed towards consumers as an alternative to their stock buds or basic headphones, the Sony MDR-KX70LW is a low priced dynamically driven open-backed earbud. At $44.99, the MDR-KX70LW is driven by a 16mm driver and includes a built in carabiner which makes cable issues a thing of the past.

Sony's poor warranty may be an issue, but at 45 dollars, such a loss may not be as hard to bear as the $299 MDR-EX700LP.
