Diamond Radeon HD 4850
$200.00
Released June, 2008
The Pros:Provides excellent overall video processing capabilities - easily powers multi-monitor setups running multiple OpenGL applications on 64-bit operating systems. Performs exceptionally well amongst 3D graphics applications - rendering/production programs like Shade, Silo and Lightwave are fully supported. Fantastic value at the sub-$500 price point - unit provides powerful video rendering with a sleek aesthetic and simple installation style.
The Cons:Lack of automatic fan control can result in high operative temperatures - unit unfortunately takes cues from GPU load, not overall temperature. Software-based "Catalyst Control Center" is seemingly prone to bugs - many users report error messages upon boot-up generated for no apparent reason.
The Diamond Radeon HD 4850 is a single slot mid-range graphics card with 512MB of ram. Using the stock ATI cooler, the card is clocked at the default 625MHz/993MHz (gpu/memory) timings. For more information on the HD 4850 refer to the full report.
