All Families Are Psychotic
$12.00
Released January, 2001
The Cons:Shallow characters that can't be related to. Pointless story that doesn't really go anywhere. Poor "action" sequences with inadequate description.
In Coupland's seventh book which acts as a departure from his usual writing style, the narrative follows a hyper-dysfunctional family as they cope with conflicts both internal and external. To list out all the issues and events that transpire between the character would take.

.. well an entire book.
Some critics have criticized the book for being too fanciful, while others enjoy the outlandish soap-opera nature of the plot.

#all_families_are_psychotic I finished this book last week and I have to admit I was terribly disappointed in it. There's just no point to it, and it's just one stupid and ridiculous situation after another that is tied together with the most tenuous of narrative threads. I don't MIND the ridiculousness of the events, it's more that there's no REACTION to the events. Everybody is as calm, cool and collected as a friggin robot which makes the book quite boring to read. Though I do like the Florian character for some reason, he was actually interesting and had a little bit of depth to him. It's a shame he's only in the book for such a short time.
