Ford has made considerable updates for the next version of the Explorer Sport Trac, which debuted this year at the Detroit auto show. Now based on the current-generation Explorer platform, it's 2 inches wider and 5 inches longer which should ensure better handling as well as extended cargo space.

Storage room will be further increased through a swing-over tubular bed extender as well as a 30-percent augmentation of the cargo bed. Independent rear suspension and Roll Stability Control should also add to the driver's control and safety, while the addition of V8 power should make it more useful for towing.
