The Cons:Cramped Interior.
For power, the GTI has a 2.0-litre (1,984 cc, to be precise) turbocharged four cylinder developing 200 horsepower. According to VW, this is one of few engines built anywhere that uses a powerful combination of homogenous direct fuel injection and exhaust turbo with intercooler.

The result is an exceptionally satisfying powerplant with lots of torque and (being lag-free) plenty of almost instant response.

#2006_volkswagen_gti Outstanding car. I have the 06 Package 1, DSG, Reflex Silver and 18" "Hufs". The car is extremely fun to drive, cornering is aggressive and forgiving (I drive Hwy 1 in No Cal often), and the passing gear is unbelievable. As a comparison (passing gear): From 50 - 70 and 70 - 90, it takes the new Civic Si takes 11 seconds. The GTI takes just over 4 seconds. No, it isn't the fastest 0-60, nor is top end the fastest (limited to 130). But for jumping onto a freeway with a short on-ramp it is awesome, for passing quickly it takes a much more muscular car to do it as quick. And the DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) transmission with the paddle shifters is just about the coolest thing in the car. Go buy it. You get so much for more for the money than you can with a comparable Subaru, Honda, or Mini.
